Yes. For three reasons.
1. If tapping it with your hand doesn't work then:-
2. Hit it with the hammer. That should impart a stronger and
more violent blow than your hand was able to deliver, and show
the
mechanism you mean business. If that doesn't get the thing
going, then :-
3. Hit it MUCH harder with the hammer. This will have two results.
1. It will destroy a useless piece of junk, leaving you free
to install the new one you purchased in case this sort of
emergency ever occured, and :-
2. It will totally relieve your frustration and feelings of
total inadaquacy that a lousy piece of foreign mechanism has caused
you so much aggravation.
