I have completed the adjusting of my Weber and would like to thank all
those who gave advice. Initially, I thought my Weber was a horsepower
thief, but through tuning and the uncovering of unrealistic expectations,
I have bonded with my new carb.
True enough, the Weber is not an SU. I do not have as much low-end power
now, but I feel as if the gains in mileage will offset this loss. I,
perhaps unconscienceiously, thought that merely bolting on a different
carb would make my car a screamer. Not at all true. Once I jumped that
hurdle, the only thing that remained was getting accustomed to the
different characteristics. That done, I now feel comfortable with my
Weber.
No, the Weber is not for everyone. I saw its relatively maintenance-free
design as a major plus. Purists don't like them because they aren't
original. What's fine for them is not necessarily so for me, but I can
respect their views.
Again, a final thanks to all who helped. A special thank you goes to
Lawrie Alexander at Britsh SportsCar Center for his help in supplying the
unit.
