Boxing Day, Dec. 26, was traditionally the servant's day off and
hence their Christmas. I've heard many stories re the orogin of the
term, but the most accepted one is that with the help off cavorting,
the master and his family had to make do with the boxed meals the staff
prepared prior to departure. GAD, but it was a tough life!!
Presently, Boxing Day is a national, or "bank" holiday and a
terriffic way of extending the holiday, allowing a day of rest and
relaxation after the frantic Big Day and its precursors, etc.
