My brakes work!! "Ok, so what?" you're thinking. Well, being fellow MG
owners, perhaps not :-) But for a year and a half now, absolutely nothing
has worked on my car. Not that it was the car's fault. I sort of ripped it
apart and scattered it about the four winds with the excuse that I'm calling
it a restoration.
And now, finally, I've got my first major system working again. I filled
the master cylinder with brake fluid, bled the system, and now you can press
down on the brake pedal to stop the car from moving!!! Imagine that! Ok, so
the pedal feels kinda spongy and my bleeding job was sub-standard. But heck,
it sorta works! Good enough for the moment.
I can now start to see the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. My
brakes work. The body is shiny and straight. The steering and suspension are
all new, clean, and wear free. The driveshaft has new ujoints and paint. The
diff has new oil, new thrust washers, and no play. The wiring harness is
repaired and installed again, and now I've started putting the engine back
together- The crank is in and torqued up, and it turns now that I took out
those pesky bearing thingies. (kidding ;-)
Perhaps I WILL get this restoration finished this millennium! Though I've
still got left the gearbox, intake, exhaust, cooling, ignition, dashboard,
and interior. As well as undoubtedly a ton of little stuff I've forgotten.
Well, thanks for letting me ramble. I know if I've got interested ears
anywhere it's here on the list. Everybody here at home has just looked at
me like I was nuts from the beginning. "You're gonna spend WHAT doing WHAT
to a WHAT??!??"
