Your story was one of those items that as i read it i realised i was
beaming from ear to ear with a sort of " yeah....i know...." grin
I got my first BGT about a year later (73) at the age of 20, it was a
harvest gold/blue int early 71with recessed grille which had been re-
imported from the island of Jersey back to the UK (whick meant i got a 73
plate which aws soooo cooool! ) I paid about 1500 pounds sterling for it
which was at the time over 12 months salary from my brand new job as a
trainee (but i had got the money working the summer in a disco in spain
fleecing the tourists!)
My old pal Dick drove me to collect it in his black Austin A30 (the age
of which i forget but if you ever see one youll wonder how Dick managed
to convince so many ladies into the back of it - you had to take the
front seats out it was so small!) - I digress.
We collected it, paid and I drove it home at just about 22mph (and stayed
at that speed for about a month, ) It was at least 2 months til i worked
out how to use the overdrive.! and we left "the bone' for later in the
evening!!
Theres no punchline to the story, its just another one to "beam' to, one
of lifes episodes you remember every detail of, in full colour complete
with soundtrack!
Dick drives a Lotus now but i know he'd rather have the A30 (and perhaps
the same waist length hair we had in 73)
