Like most of you, I probably wouldn't give my daughter(if I had one) a LBC
at age 16. In fact, I did'nt give my son one either. Instead I handed him
the keys to a 1974 Dodge Dart (slant 6 and all).
That lasted about a year, until one Friday afternoon in the spring, he came
to me and asked me if he could borrow my Midget, as he was going out with
some SYT (sweet young thing) and wanted to impress her.
And here the old man was a real SOB. I said no. Basically if he wanted an
MG, he could buy it, maintain it, and pay for it. I would assist in any way
he needed with the exception of financially.
Two weeks later he found a good buy on a 73 Midget, which we had back on
the road in good running order in less than 8 hours after it was delivered.
Oh, he's now 28, and still has the Midget, with about 100,000 miles more on
the clock.
Sometimes "cruel love" does work.
