Two stroke engines are not new to automotive world. I had a couple
Saab 96's in the '60s. These had three cylinder two stroke engines.
My 1964 model had a 750cc engine and the oil had to be added to the
gasoline. My 1967 model had a 850cc engine and an oil resivoir under
the hood that held enough oil for several thousand miles.

These cars had to have regular highway driving to keep the plugs
from fouling. Many the time, the engine would start to stumble
after a period of city driving. I would then head for the highway
and take her up to around 70 mph. This would leave a huge cloud of
smoke in my wake for several miles (awesome to see in the rear
view mirror). After the smoke went away the engine would run like
new. I assume the Orbital 2 stroke design has solved the fouling
problem. If you look at typical conventional two stroke applications,
you will find these engines are run hard. They absolutley hate to
idle or run at low rpm.

Sorry for the non LBC content. Did the Brits ever make a two stroke
car?
