I was looking for a steering wheel for my 72 B recently. A dealer on the list
(who will hear from me separately) sent me one. But it was from a 77 ( has
holes in spokes, not slots). Now I know something he doesn't know. A 77 wheel
won't fit a 72. The mounting hole on the 77 is too small.
I could use a new steering column, with good threads on the wheel mounting
area and good bushings. Will a later model column fit a 72, assuming the
wheels are different? Does anyone have a _good_ column for a 72. Good
bushings, good threads. If I'm going to do it I want to do it right.
Lacking that, anyone have a hub that fits a 72 that I could use to move the
77 stuff over? Will that work (horn button commutator match?)? Otherwise I
have to hassle with the dealer... The wheel on the car now is an aftermarket
job with no horn assembly and not interchangeable with a stock wheel. The DPO
put a doorbell pushbutton on the console for the horn!
Cheers,
