I completely agree with the previous post about the suitability of the
Weber for the 'B powerplant.
I went through the Weber DD vs. SD vs. 1 1/4" SU battle for about 2 months
before relying on the basic VE-type engine math and deciding that a
well-sized SD Weber would work just FINE on a 'B motor. I have a 45 DCOE
on my 1970 MGB using the TWM manifold. I had the engine chassis dyno tuned
after installation, and it has been the single best automotive investment I
have ever made. A slightly rough idle at 900 RPM, and slightly less gas
milage for a car that actually has REAL throttle response!
The key point is that this is not an "out of the box" carb; vaccuum carbs
like the SU can "size" themselves based on the engine. With the Weber, you
need to get it set up right; IMHO, via a chassis dyno.
I would highly recommend the SD Weber if it is properly tuned.
