Geoff asks about the origin of SU as in the famous carburettors. George H Skinner patented the design in 1905. With his brothers John and Carl, Skinner formed the SU Carburettor Company in 1910, setting up business in a small workshop in London. The family gave the carburettor its name, SU for Skinners Union. The company was acquired in the 1920's by one of its major customers, William Morris (later Lord Nuffield) and we all know where he fits into the scheme of things. Regards to all Paul |
