This is a '67 so the Temperature gage has the bulb type sensor that is directly 
attached to the gage. The gage also has the oil gage built in to it.

 To check the temperature gage you need to remove the bulb from the
block and stick it into a pan of boiling water. The gage should read
212 degrees.


I missed the first part of this thread so you may have done this:  Also
check the radiator to see that the water flows through freely. A
partially plugged radiator will reduce cooling effieciency.
