I just cleaned mine a week ago. I would recommend the kit. The cleaner
is a water based detergent like 409. Something like that would probably
work fine. Rinse with a stream of water from the inside of the filter
out and let dry. Takes a longer time to try than I thought. High
humidity is a problem here I am sure. The oil that is supplied with the
kit is colored red so you can see that you have an adequate coverage. I
think I would at least purchase the oil and the spray can makes this
easy. I would also not recommend waiting for 50K miles. I did mine at
about 25k and there was a lot of dirt on them from normal driving.
