Really high oil pressure, usually caused by a stuck pressure relief valve, can blow out the oil filter. Moderately high oil pressure, like anything over 80 psi, usually caused by the DPO installing improper relief spring of by shimming same, can cause excessive wear or premature failure of the oil pump drive gears (including the cam gear). This doesn't happen instantly, but the problem should be attended to before you have gear failure, not after. Check the pressure relief. Barney Gaylord |
