Paul H. - the continuing saga of the errant timing cover...I chose
the right plan of attack by backing away from the issue and
revisiting it the following day. After applying liberal amounts of
carb cleaner to the cover, this revealed a hex nut nestled up in the
shadows near the oil pump bulge. After removing that nut, the cover
popped off easily.
Removing the cover revealed a timing chain with about 1" of slack on
the trailing side! No wonder there was a bog on acceleration. Now
it's time to clean everything, a fun job with my garage up over 100
degrees every day (Welcome to the Sacramento Valley in July).
