I've found defensive driving to be the only safety feature that really works
properly.
Most defensive driving courses exhort you to put yourself in the other
drivers' shoes, try to anticipate their actions, and react ahead of time.
Pretend that none of the other drivers has a clue.
Personally, I've found it most useful to drive as though the other drivers on
the road are actively attempting to kill me.
This mindset has kept me out of more than one serious accident. I encourage
all drivers of LBC's to adopt it. Given the number of SUV's and MiniVans on
the road, as well as airbag protected teenagers in 5 litre Mustangs, I rather
think that I'm not pretending any longer.
