We had a similar discussion on the Triumphs list recently, and I had the
same problem a while back. What worked for me was Ye Olde Rope Trick, a
few feet of nylon rope stuffed into the plug hole, so you can pound up
against the head by turning the engine over. It didn't happen easily, I
had to keep adding shims under the other end of the head to keep it square.
I heated the offending area with a propane torch, but wouldn't recommend
anything hotter. If you heat first, then add WD-40, it won't ignite.
The big secret is to stay serene... I had to keep fighting the urge
to use a wood-splitting maul.
