Hi,
Gulp valves are troublesome for several reasons. The original versions
are rarely available and New Old Stock can fail prematurely, possible because
the rubber diaphram inside corrodes. Don't pay too much of a premium for an
original.
The near-replacement Datsun-type gulp valve works OK on pre-'75 cars but
tends to still backfire a bit on late-model (Zenith/Stromberg) cars. This
valve mounts differently than the original and there are several Datsun
valves that look similar but only one works closely enough.
