Hi kind SOLs!
You might remember last hearing from me in a frenzy when I got the job
offer and was given only three weeks to move from Florida to Albuquerque
NM USA. I happened to be in the process of rebuilding the engine of my
cherished MGA. Well, we made it to Albuquerque, 1500 miles in four days,
with the MGA on a trailer behind Ryder's biggest rental truck with the
MGA's engine and gearbox in the back with nearly all of our other
possessions, and three cats in the cab, a total of about 13 tons. My wife
drove her minivan containing her two miniature Dachshunds and computer and
all of my guitars and basses. And a 55 gallon aquarium. Fortunately no
major damage was incurred. I had the tonneau on the MGA covering
everything that was packed inside and the wind lifted the lift-the-dot
studs from the front of the cover and proceded to use them to beat the
shit out of small areas of the scuttle. Grrrrr. Oh well, it could have
been worse. At least I managed to stay awake and keep everything pretty
much between the lines. After four days on the road and another five in a
motel with all the animals it was good to find a nice rental house with a
two car garage and get moved in. Soon the rebuild can continue.
On to the MG question. For some reason, I forgot to check the tappets
when disassembling the engine. Three are pitted. The machine shop
checked the camshaft and said it was fine. It's OK to use new tappets
with an old cam but not the other way around, right? So I should order
all new tappets, right? Or just replace the ones that look bad? I'd
think do them all.
Loving Albuquerque. Great LBC weather. A coworker drives a 59 MGA. This
place is _so_ cool.
