Actualy It's an E Production road racing car. All though I have done some
autocrossing for fun. Any way I've built about 6-7 Mgb engines from 100 to ~
160 HP.
EP does not allow a bore over .040 so I can't run 2liters in a race MG. I've
heard Johnathan Lane who Used to work for MOSS built a 2liter '67 B using
venola pistons. Venola can probably give you more info but I think there
origionally for a Lotus. These pistons have the drawback of having to
masivly deck the block to get the compresion hight back. Seven enterprises
sells a 1.9 liter kit with noramal deck hight. All these kits run about $500
for the pistons. I'f you build a 1840cc B motor at 13.5 - 14.1 to 1 like my
EP car with cosworth pistons it would give you 155-160+ HP. But youll need
bigger carbs major head modifications (domed combustion chambers big ports),
A big cam, big headers (I run 1.75" to a 3" exaust) ,and very strong head /
rod bolts(ARP everything). You would also have to run $4.00 per gallon 110
octane leaded premium gas and a high energy igition. And LOTS of extra
cash!! Huffaker preped MGB motors run about $12,000.00. Gee mabee thats how
you built a $10,000.00 MGB.
Most likely the best thumper B motor would be a PACO(800-326-6401) 2002cc
stroker kit only a .060" over bore with .250" cost about $1199.00. I've
been considering all these possibilities for my '68B that I used to Autocross
in DSP. I've feel the best HP/$ dollar figure with enough reliabilty for the
street is a 3.5 liter rover V8 and a rover SDI 5 speed tranny. I was
quoted $750.00 for each from a dismantaler back east. I would NEVER swap in
a japanese 2 liter. I've seen these at the wrecking yards I it's a mess.
Theres no hood clearance for the over head cam and your fighting a hard
battle for very little gain. Drop in a rover 3.5 , buick V6, or even a small
block chevy (I've seen work this beffore) but never a different enimic 4
banger. The Buick alluminum block V6 is a possible option. I haven't
checked into the detatils yet but I've been told to contact Johns Cars in
dallas texas about conversion kits. By the way the Rover V8's good for at
least 200 - 250 HP 300+ in race form. I was told the Buick V6 could be 250
+ HP and came with a tubo in some modles.

PS: My new 160 HP Race motors in the car as of sunday. Mouted on solid
motor mounts! Finnished adding two oxygen sensors to the headders for the
air/fuel meter. All thats left is to hook up the oil cooler and radiator.
