Allan Hovis related a tale of woe, doom, and gloom thusly:

>It all began when I read on the net that someone was using Mystery Oil
>in the dashpots of their carbs in the winter and it helped with the
>initial rough acceleration. So since it sounded like a good idea to
>me, I poured some in my carbs.

So you went and (with malice of forethought, no less!!)
poured something called "Marvel Mystery Oil" into your SU Carbs?
What did you expect? A GOOD mystery? Get real. We are talking MGs
    here.

It looks like you tempted the God of LBC's, and he is a mean-sprited
SOB (not an "SOL", which is different) with a twisted sense of
    humor:

"Oh, he wants a MYSTERY, does he?
I'll give him a mystery....." (ZOT!)

>Since it was a beautiful day (almost 80 here in February!) I
>was headed out for a nice top down run and tried to start the car.

This was of course AFTER you decided to use "Mystery Oil".
You now see how subtle the God of LBC's is:

"Hmmm... he did not drive the car yet.
Well, I can't wait around until spring,
so let's make some nice weather just
to get him out on the road..." (SHAZAM!!)

Cleaning the throats may not be enough.
The entire needle assembly may be semi-clogged in one or both carbs.
If the needles are blocked, you get the symptoms you mentioned.

I suggest a 100% strip-down and cleaning for both carbs.
Make 'em shine, inside and out. Soak the parts in the best
    solvent you can find.

Too bad they outlawed Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). That stuff
would clean a carb in seconds. The best solvent I have ever
seen. Sadly, a good solvent can be a nasty thing...

No software will ever be able to compress information to the
extent a human female does when she merely raises an eyebrow.
