72 Midget Temp Guage

     The temp guage in my 72 Midget MAY have just died.
     Before I try to replace this (I think its a bulb/tube/
     mercury system), has anyone converted an older Midget to the
     newer (I presume electric) system?  Neither Moss nor Vicky
     list replacement for my older model.  Do you suppose the 1500
     parts might fit?
