Dirk-- Vacuum is higher when the foot is removed from the accelerator pedal. Vacuum is produced by the engine pistons drawing air/fuel mixture into the cylinder. When the throttle is closed a partial vacuum is produced. When the throttle is open more air can get in, hence, less vacuum. The phenomenon of windshield wipers slowing down when overtaking was not from engine speed but from the throttle being open. Just my $0.02. Ken Scott 77 MGB |
