I'm late to this thread, but have one thing to add.
It's my understanding that the automotive manufacturers have indicated
that the change from Freon in auto air conditionings to a less harmful
substitute (which is also less effective) requires larger openings in the
front of vehicles to assist with cooling, an the plates on the front of
vehicles limit their options somewhat, hence a push to remove the
reuirement for a front plate.
