Hi there,
James Fisher metioned his trouble with the lights switch in his 1970 MGB.
I have had my experiences with this switch as well!
My 1971 MGBGT came when I bought it with almost no electrical stuff
working at all!
LUCAS = Prince of Darkness or Loose Unsoldered Connectors And Shimmering.
Anyway here's another warning:
While busy with the dashboard my heater control cable had to be loosened.
I did not check where it went into the dash.
Afterwards I swithed on the headlamps for another check.
Result was smoke from the loom!
What happended was, that the heater control cable touched the instrument
illumination variable resistor and made a short circuit.
Stupid enough (of the MGB designer!) the fuse box is far behind this point!
So one wire in the loom was burned from the head lamp switch to the
variable resistor.
Advise: Add an in line fuse between the battery connection and the heqdlamp
switch!!!
Restoring the loom took me many hours!
Would you be so kind to forward this to the MG world?
At this moment I just have email functionality to the net.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Hans Duinhoven
