I recently had this problem on my 67 Sprite. Fuel just keeps coming from the
bowls. I replaced the jets with Grosses and it still did it. The problem was
finally located in the gas tank. It was full of rust, and even with a new
fuel filter, very fine rust dust would play games with the float seats. The
solution was to get that gas tank cleaner/coating kit and added another fuel
filter with the little magnetic trap from JC Whitney. Things are running real

You need as many as are required to get the proper float height for
your carburetter with minimal bending of the float fork. I realize
that this is not a real answer, but you _must_ set the float height to
the spec required by your particular car, which is found in your shop
manual. I used two washers last time I installed these, but it may
be different in your situation.
A word about Grooze (sic) jets. Yes, they do what they claim, but
overflow in the float chamber (especially after long layups) is caused
as often by sticking floats as sticking jets. I make it a practice to
bang on the float chambers as my carbies are pumping up after having
parked long enough for the chambers to dry.
I often reflect on the brilliance of the British engineering that lead
to the pipes on the tops of the float chambers to divert the petrol
when -- not if-- the chambers overflowed. I once asked a British
friend why they put the pipes on the outside of their houses. He
looked at me as if I were a bit barmy and said, "Simple. 'At's so we can get
to 'em when they freeze." QED
