I'd go with the garage idea, or find someone with a good press. Hammering on the caps may bend the ears that hold the bearings, and the tranny end peice is not only quite vulnerable to this, but is Very expensive to replace if you have to get a new one, compared to the 10-15 bucks a shop will charge to press out the old and press in the new. Don't forget the grease!, and consider doing both ends while you are in there. |
