Fellow fiends:
Well, the responses I've received regarding the potential stripping (sp?) of
Old Whitesides is running about 2:1 in *favor* of them. I'm a bit
suspicious that the logic is: don't own a car w/stripes but know someone who
does (sort of like my logic as regards sail boats). A few were pretty
strongly against it. OTOH, they were very common on Triumphs (at least the
TR4s, 250s and occasional 6); you see them now and again on a Lotus, but
almost never on an MG. Did they stripe Singers? ;-)
I like the idea of setting up a visual test with some removeable material
before I go so far as to paint them. I also like the other stripe pattern
suggested (one wide stripe, say 5 or 6 inches, flanked by two one inch
stripes) but I was pretty sure it was supposed to be on the driver's side
(as Gary Marquis suggested). That would get away from what one fellow
called the "Shelby Mustang" look; a good point too! Many thanks to all who
commented.
The final arbiter: My beloved spouse returns from out of town tomorrow
evening so we'll see what "she who must be obeyed" has to say. I could
always just go out and get it done today and claim that I had a bad week.
You know, one of those binge things.
Will "they stripe miatas, don't they?" Zehring
p.s. Who is paul_medlock@peach.peach.com and why won't he read my mail?
p.p.s. No, I don't wear red suspenders.
p.p.p.s. My brother put stipes on his Corvair Monza back in '66.
