I'm not sure what imports the US got or not..but Rover V8's came in Range
Rovers since the early 70's (I'm not sure when the 1st range rover came out).
In later years 1988/9( I think!) its capacity jumped to 3.9Litres (same block).
and a bit further on to 4.something (I think)..The latest model has a 4.6L
variant...its a new casting so the physical dimensions may be different....
The rover motors are better than the earlier buick motors due to better
casting techniques....These improved I believe over the life of the motor..ie
the newer the better....The rover blocks had better webbing and are stronger..
Some range rovers (probably not ones that went to the US) had 4 bolt mains...
Though just about anybody can make do it yourself 4 bolt mains....

In the 60's Rover P5/P6's also came with rover v8's....
