Worth checking whether the rubber pipes which ventilate the sump are not
blocked. If they are then the sump can pressurise and force oil into the
top of the engine. One indication of this problem is if you see an oily
mist coming from the oil filler cap under pressure. There is a one way
valve (or there should be) in one of the pipes so ckeck them one at a time
and also the serviceability of the one way valve.
A cylinder pressure of 185 psi on a low comression engine (which yours
probably it) is far too high and does indeed suggest a carbon build up of
mammoth proportions.
