I finished restoring my wife's 78 B. It has been in storage
since we were married ten years ago. I had not drove it
before I started restoring. Sanded the paint to metal and
brought it back up to lacquer hand rubbed out. The engine
I took apart and put back together. Put in a 270 cam,
Weber down draft carb, 2" header and exhaust
and reseated the valves, new distributor and wires.
The piston and cylinders seemed fine and
I left them alone. (The car only had 28,000 miles on it)
My question is how much of a hot rod should it be? Can
someone give me some figures that it should be doing?
0 to 60 or 40 to 60 in fourth or a quarter mile? It just
seems like it doesn't have the power. The timing bothers
me. I can advance the timing to 30 to 35 degrees and it will
not knock. It runs better at 30 to 35 than back at 15 or
20 degrees. By adjusting the timing by ear for the fastest
idle it is around that 30 to 35 degrees. Is this right?
