I've just replaced the gauge on my '65 Sprite. The metal tube had broken
from the radiator & the MG workshop said that it was filled with ether
and I couldn't fix it.
The only answer was a replacement oil/water gauge unit..

It was an exchange item, so presumably there is a workshop somewhere
equipped to repair them..
