This is a reminder of the obvious, but I felt I had to mention it to all you
early (pre-1974) MG owners: go find the nearest small civil aviation airport
, make friends with the guy who fills up the Piper Cubs and little Cesnas,
and start tanking up on 100 octane low lead aviation gas! With my new flowed
and milled cylinder head, it's a necessity, but any original motor designed
for leaded fuel will benefit tremendously from running on real gasoline with
some guts to it. You'll probably spend less at an airport than you think,
too; when I lived in Los Angeles, I used to get 100 octane unleaded "Trick"
brand racing gas at the pump (in Pacific Palisades) for $3.99 a gallon
(OUCH!). At the small airport I got to in Newburyport, Mass, I pay $2.25 a
gallon for 100 octane leaded--which is only 76 cents more per gallon than
Shell 93 octane unleaded. Now my MGB licks my hand in gratitude, and feels
like it has 10 extra bhp at 3000 rpm. (Not to mention smoother running, too.
