Ehem, in the days of BMC, badge engineering was pretty well rampant (The
more things change, the more....). Variants of the Austin 1100 appeared
badged as MG, Wolseley, Riley and Vanden Plas. The Morris, Wolseley, etc.
variants were distinguished by upmarket trim and smaller "marque" grilles,
as opposed to the Austin full-width grille. The Wolseley and Vanden Plas
would have had wood-veneer dashboards, leather seating surfaces and
possibly veneer door caps.
Similar treatment was applied to other BMC-range cars, most notably Minis
and the "Farina" range, big and small lines.
All upmarket 1100 and minis (but especially the 1100s) are now in cult
status in Japan, and many are being exported from the UK there, where they
apparently fetch something in the order of 5000 sterling and up (!) for a
good example.
UH, from the you won't believe this department, there happens to be a 1968
Vanden Plas in the current issue of the Toronto Auto Trader. No firm
details on condition in the ad, but they want $2950 CDN for it.
I grew up in Britain, so some of this bacground info is memory, some is
from reading current UK "classic" mags.
