In response to the questions on V8s and overdrive.
The MGB GT V8 was produced with the overdrive as standard equipment. The
first 500 cars had overdrive on third and top (as do the 4 cylinder models).
Later this was changed to top gear only since it was felt that the torque of
the motor in an indirect gear was likely to do damage.
In overdrive top V8s cruise at a tad over 2,800 rpm at 70 mph so are a
wonderful cruiser. The higher power also makes aircon a viable option,
especially with today's improved design.
