Sean, Linday Porter's book "The Guide to Purchase and DIY Restoration
of the MGB" describes this method.  I used to have a 63 that I converted.
 I had a manual tach though.  I can't remember exactly
what I did. I think I just switched the terminal and then used a piece
of wire to arc across on generator.  Anyway don't follow my instructions
(or destruction).  Read the book.
