MG Networkers -

Your consideration for my predicament please. My wife, who dearly loves my
MGBs more than anyone has a right to expect from a wife, approached me the
other eve, asking if I would mind if she bought a Miata.

A MIATA?!

Cold perspiration erupted from my pores. Where had I gone wrong? Well
after my basal metabolism finally dropped below the flicker rate of my
headlights, she explained that she really wanted an MG, but couldn't deal
with the hood (the top). My wife is not of robust constitution, and I fear
that she is right. While driving alone - as she often does in the course
of her work - on a topdown day, should the need arise for the hood to
arise, she could not do it by herself. It is a struggle to get the
windscreen clamps to line up, and then those dot fasteners do demand some
strength, as well as durable fingernails. After assisting me with these
hundreds of times, she has serious doubts about her ability to deal with
one alone.

Soooo... What do I recommend? What will give her all the pleasures of an
LBC without the hassles of an MGB hood. So far, my only idea is a BGT with
one of those large fabric sunroofs such as the factory installed in the GT
V8s--should I be able to find one. She could live with that, but would
prefer a real convertible. I've thought about a Fiat Spyder - but then I
would have to acquire a taste for Italian cars. Could that possibly be as
much fun?

Suggestions are warmly appreciated.
