HI Guys,

In answer to the question below, I have a 1975 factory MGB GT V8 and the fans
are controlled by a sender (otter switch) mounted in the intake manifold just
prior to the water leaving the thermostat housing on the engine side of the
thermostat. That is the hottest point before the coolant enters the radiator.
The fans are wired into the ignition so they only operate when the engine is
running. There is a manual switch on the console for additional fan control.

Note that the otter switch is used in lots of other Brit cars and is available
from Jaguar. Most manifolds other than the GM manifold, have an "untapped"
boss for the otter switch. I had an Edelbrock on my TR8 once and it had the
mount for the switch. It acts as a ground for the fans only and is not
adjustable. The switch is available with various set points.

The grommet mounted temperature bulb in the radiator discussed below is fitted
to factory 4 cylinder cars and is in the coolant stream as water enters the
radiator from the thermostat housing. It is not present on factory V8 cars.

"For those in the know, where is the sensor on a factory car? IIRC, is it not
installed on the back side of the top tank?"
