Thanks for the replys. I forgot to say it's a Rover 3.5 engine with
hydraulic lifters. I've already changed the lifters, so still the ticking.

note about the continuously intemittent ticking might be my problem. Carl's
web site link for adjusting valves was just what I was looking for. Thanks
for the help.
