Absolutely. I have a friend who races a '71 XJ6 4-door with a 383 Chevy small
block
and a 700R4 trans. The car wieghs nearly 4500 pounds and turns mid 11's. I
think
you'd be hard-pressed to break it in an MGB that wieghs 2000 pounds less.

'Bout any Jag from 1962 to 1987, maybe earlier, definitely later in a slightly
different
form. Series 3 XJ6 is proabably the most common, but you'll end up with a 2.73
gear
ratio. Series 2 XJ6 will likely be 3.31, and some E-types were 3.50-ish or
3.70.
It's a Dana, so any ratio gear set can be purchased, as can spools, lockers,
and
limited-slip carriers. You won't find many factory limited-slip units except in
XJ12's or
V12 XJS's. Check first, there's no guarantee that a V12 car will be
limited-slip, but you
seldom see them in 6 cylinder cars.

In theory the Jag IRS could give better handling performance, but like anything
else it
depends upon the excecution. Poor work yeilds poor results in either case.
I dunno what you would consider proof...
