    Here's what I saw when I took out the bearings:  The condition was
nearly identical on them all: about 1/8" of an inch away from the parting
line (on both sides of both bearing halves) there was some shine, maybe
about 1/8" worth.  So that's 4 shiny spots per journal.  What could cause
this on multiple bearings?

         James,
         Sounds like you may have some edge loading or some minor cap shift.
Assemble the crank with all the bearings, rotate a few times then examine
the
bearings for any sign of cap misalignment (shiny areas at the parting line)
or
shiny lines on the edges of the bearing, as in radius interference. A tight
spot, even a small one can give you that initial grab when you try to turn
it.
