Gents, I am thinking about putting my new engine back into my V8. It is a
'63 Olds 215 with 4bbl. My current thermostat is a 185 deg stat, the book
lists a stock opening temp of 167-172. Can anyone offer any good reason to
chose one stat over another. In the range that I am considering, I think I
have 165, 175, and 185 available. I live in Ohio FWIW. I don't expect to
have any problems with the 185 stat as that is what was installed in the
first engine, but if there is a reason to go for a lower temp I would like
to know. I need to replace it either way. I know that emissions are lower
for higher temps but I am permanently emissions exempt so that is not a
factor. Are there any performance benefits to a certain temp over another?
Any other benefits/considerations?
