Having been back to work for almost 2 weeks, I am now thinking about next years
convention. This year's was a good one, lots of fun, if a little more loosely
organized than previous years. This was the first time we have done this in
other than hot summertime, & for me, at least, it was a perfect time to get
away.
I propose some general criteria for next year's convention:
Late Feb. or early March, in a warm locale, connected with a race track of some
sort, if at all possible.
Connecting with a local MG club would spread the organizational work beyond 1
person. Don certainly did a good job, but I am sure he would have appreciated
some help. A "pre" event to a weekend car show, as we have done in the past,
perhaps.
Hotel to provide a meeting room or hospitality suite as a central point for sign
ups, posting schedules, etc.
Some functions for the wives/girl friends that are not as interested in car talk
24 hours a day- this may encourage additional attendance.
At least 1 dinner event.
Minimum of 2 driving events- tours, track events, drag race, auto cross, etc.
Organized "car tour" tech with each owner giving a run down of their car. This
is a good first day event, & provides introductions of the participants.
So, what to the rest of you think? There have been some suggestions for next
year, but nothing definite has been decided, as far as I know. I like the
winter/early spring, as it does not compete with other events for the majority
of us, & I really enjoyed watching the snow reports in shorts & T-shirt.
