Simple Question. Oil Capacity

Can someone tell me the # of quarts to fill a dry engine.  I'm surprised
that none of my rover books has it.  I'd also like to know what is the # of
quarts between high and low on the dipstick.  My engine never came with a
dipstick, so i'm having to use a Ford one.  Just want to see if the marks
are even close.
