HMF-
You are exactly correct as to the source of most of our cooling problems. The
larger V8 limits airflow even more than the 4 cyl, and when you add headers that
radiate heat, not contain it as the cast iron manifolds do, you have an even
greater heat load.
I have cut louvers in the inner fenders of my GT, & I believe they help. The
project car is using RV8 style headers, through the fenders, which should also
help. The GT has an air dam, & the project car will, as well. On the GT, I
opened up the air intake holes by about 10%.
Do some more research before deciding upon polypropoline as a coolant. It has a
greater temp range than etethaline glycol but is not as good as a heat transfer
agent. Good old Prestone actually transfers heat faster, & a 50/50 mix is better
than straight. I have used the polypropoline mixed, but not straight. Don't
know how a no pressure system will affect cooling, but would be interested in
the results. Check out C & R Racing under general parts on my links - web page
mgbv8.com & read what they say about pressurized cooling systems.
Thanks for the response, keep me/us posted as you go along.
