Several people have e-mailed me regarding air conditioning for a MGB. I
have tried to respond to all, if I missed you, please let me know.
I have finally gotten some pictures of the A/C installation onto my web
page. They show the Vintage Air Mini Space Saver unit, & some of the
surgery involved in placing it where the stock heater box was located.
Try< mgbv8.com > Click on Air Conditioning. The original installation
was when the GT still had the 4cyl engine. If you go to Pictures, page
2, Blue Car, you will see some engine bay & dash pictures after the V8
was installed.
The unit works very well, has been in 3 years, uses R134. Compressor is
a Sanden 505, universal type condenser & dryer. Another Club member here
in D.C. has the same installation in an earlier GT, & is also quite
happy with it.
Some modifications to the unit are necessary to clear the passenger
hood(bonnet) hinge, hence the sheet metal duct extension allolwing the
fan unit to be relocated. The defrost matrix also had to be rotated 180
` to getr the hoses pointing in the right direction.
If you are interested, don't expect any help from Vintage Air regarding
modifications to their unit. They do not want it modified, since they
cannot document the changes that may affect warranty & performance, &
they are not interested in developing anything for the MG market.
