John-
The T-5 did not come with the Chevy Monza, The Monza was equipped with a
T-50. The T-5 was a Camero box, approx mid-80's thru about 1992.
Shift patterns, size, ratios differ. If you are looking for the old T-50
which died out in production in the early 80's, I will check my stock. I
have several, but unknown ratios. If you have any ID numbers, I would
need that, or if you know the various ratios, I can spin the input &
count turns.
Because the T-50 is difficult to reassemble, most rebuilt units have
been "forced" the last 1/4-3/8", internal shift rods are often bent, so
in looking for one in a salvage yard, use your nose & eyes. Fresh
gaskets or RTV are signs of repair, and the smell of gear oil means walk
away, as these trannies were supposed to be filled with ATF only. T-5's
use ATF also.
I have about 125,000 miles on the T-50 in my Roadster, 2nd T-50 tranny.
It is a very nice unit, very compact. I like the unconventional shift
pattern, since I often get stuck in big traffic jams, the 2nd/3rd gear
bias is ideal. It will take horsepower, but not slam-shifting.
