I have the McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing in both my V8 B's, one with
a 9-1/4 clutch & a T-50, the other with a 10" & a T-5. In both cases I
am using the stock MGB clutch master cylinder.
I would describe the 9-1/4 as light, & the 10 as moderate. I am
completely satisfied with both. The 9-1/4 has had the bearing rebuilt at
about 170,000 miles, the 10 is on its first 25,000.
Part number is 1400, 1410 I believe. The initial setup is important,
spacing the bearing to clutch fingers at a specific distance, given in
the instructions. Being an OF, I have forgotten what that is, but I'm
sure its in your instructions.
I suggest you contact Webber, ask to speak to Red Roberts. Assuming he
is still active, as it has been 7-8 years ago that we talked, he
was/is(?) the tech for the throwout bearings, & at that time, was
President of the company. When I had a defective fitting, I faxed
Webber, he is the one who responded, and was absolutely the nicest
person to deal with. We spoke on the phone a couple of times, & he is
just another good ol' boy "hot rodder".
Why are you using the Mercedees clutch? I assume this is going with a
T-5, 26 spline. Summit Racing sells a 10" "stock" clutch kit for $149.00
with free shipping. If there is an advantage, let me know, as I am
about 30 days away from an engine swap & this would be the time to make
a change, if warrented.
