How much should I budget toward an MGB-V8 conversion? I want to start
with a rubber bumper B-GT. How much should I budget toward a mild engine
(175-200hp) or so, 5sp tranny and the conversion basics? I will
probably spend quite a bit on general fix-up for the car, paint, etc. I
want to make it "race-prepped" meaning, a roll-bar (don't want a cage
for the street), nice race-style shell seats (with shoulder supports,
etc), fix-up the interior, etc. I will also completely go through the
suspension, cleaning, painting, detailing and upgrading. I don't know
whether I want to do a coil-over conversion, I'll probably wait for
that. I am planning on using one of the fiberglass monte-carlo (?) kits
to remove the bumpers, etc.

How much fabrication will I need to do for the basic engine swap? Any
major parts not available? I'm willing to pay a little more for an
existing part rather than fabricate it since I don't have massive
patients or free time.

Any ideas on how much a shop would charge to do the basic conversion
(assuming I had it done at a MGB specialty shop)?

The trick will be finding a straight, rust-free, GT to start with.

Any pointers on the correct years, to start with, etc.
