John,
I am FAR from an expert on such things but it's my understanding of SU carbs
that the piston rises based on a vacuum in the cylinder and the precision
fit of the piston to the cylinder is absolutely critical. In other words I
would say that you should not do anything more than just clean the parts. I
wouldn't sand or polish the fitting surfaces.
