Mike,
Almost certainly the rubber gasket you replaced in the oil pump is at fault.
You must remove ALL the old gasket first, then replace with the new CORRECT
gasket. The correct rubber gasket is 0.088" to 0.090" thick. Frequently the
new filter comes with 3 different thickness gaskets. 0.088" is the right
one. It is a snug fit in the groove in the oil pump, groove is 0.090" wide.
But you can buy a spin-on adapter to allow use of a modern spin-on filter.
The adapter screws into the back of the oil pump in place of the old
cannister. Now when you change the filter, you do not disturb the seal in
the oil pump. And filters are probably less expensive.
And yes, I sell the adapter.
Good luck, Bob

Subject: [Mg-t] Oil filter problem
Hello all,
This seems so ridiculous I'm almost too embarassed to hit "send," but I
recently changed the oil and filter in my '54 TF 1250, as I've done
successfully a dozen times before, and can't seem to get the filter cover to
seat correctly. When I start the car, oil comes running out of the filter
assembly. If I tighten the center bolt, it gushes out. If I loosen the
bolt,
it continues to run out. I did remove the old rubber ring seal and put in
the appropriate replacement. Even tried swapping the old one back in.
Anyone have any ideas?
I used a Napa 1300 filter, by the way. Anyone have trouble with these? I
have picked up a Wix 51300 in case the problem is the Napa filter.
Thanks for any advice.
Cheers,
